My interest in flying began at age 15 with completing a Royal Air Force fixed wing glider scholarship, shortly after which I started paragliding. This led to parachuting at University while completing a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, and shortly afterwards to my first BASE jump at age 19.
I worked for a time in industry but the draw of BASE was too great, and within 2-3 years began assisting my well renowned and vastly experienced mentor Andy Callender in running BASE instructional courses abroad. After a few years I quit my somewhat normal job to take this up full time!
Instructing BASE was not only completely fulfilling for me but it meant that I was creating a group of great up and coming new jumpers and subsequently ended up mentoring and travelling afterwards with them on BASE trips, resulting eventually in meeting Paul some 10 years ago.
I have been fortunate enough to have conducted over 2000 BASE jumps in some amazing locations and with unique (very special) people and for me this sport just gets better and better the more I am involved in it. I wanted to continue instructing and meeting new jumpers and establishing BASE LOGIC was an obvious move after Andy Callenders retirement from the sport.
In my spare time I am a light aircraft pilot and have built my own aeroplane, and run a couple of other businesses mostly centered around the construction industry.
I was also educated as a Mechanical Engineer but quite quickly joined the military shortly after. My military roles have given me some excellent tools to instruct and to work in high impact environments which is ideal for BASE.
With an exciting and varied career now behind me my primary focus is concentrating on BL, AFF instruction and some additional parachuting projects with Olly.
Base was never on the radar for me because it felt like it was something unattainable and so not even worth considering but as I went over 200 skydives and did a bit of demonstration jumping with some advanced canopy handling into tight landing areas I realised that actually with the right training BASE was entirely possible.
The right BASE training put me on the right track and with the right group of people so in between work and deployments I was fitting in some next level trips to some unbelievable locations.
I have been teaching Base for 5 years as an assistant instructor, more recently stepping into a dedicated instructor role and now into BL as our own venture.
I have other parachuting related skills directly related to BASE such as AFF Instructor, wind tunnel coach, skydiving demonstration jumper and paragliding pilot. My other BASE related skills include sailing yacht skipper (understanding of weather) having done some off shore ocean yacht racing and a traditional rock climber previously although it was a while ago now but am still proficient in basic rope work.
