My interest in flying began at age 15 with completing a Royal Air Force fixed wing glider scholarship, shortly after which I started paragliding. This led to parachuting at University while completing a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, and shortly afterwards to my first BASE jump at age 19.
I worked for a time in the engineering industry but continuing to BASE jump as much as possible, with my experience as an instructor working in the Stavanger Base Club in Norway during the 2011 season. Shortly afterwards I began assisting my well renowned and vastly experienced mentor Andy Callender in running BASE instructional courses abroad. After a few years I quit my somewhat normal job to take this up full time!
Instructing BASE was not only completely fulfilling for me but it meant that I was creating a group of great up and coming new jumpers and subsequently ended up mentoring and travelling afterwards with them on BASE trips, resulting eventually in meeting Paul some 10 years ago.
I have been fortunate enough to have conducted over 2000 BASE jumps in some amazing locations and with unique (very special) people and for me this sport just gets better the more I am involved in it. I wanted to continue instructing and meeting new jumpers and establishing BASE LOGIC was an obvious move after Andy Callenders retirement from the sport.
In my spare time I am a light aircraft pilot and have built my own aeroplane, and run a couple of other businesses mostly centered around the construction industry.
I was also educated as a Mechanical Engineer but quite quickly joined the military shortly after. My military roles have given me some excellent tools to instruct and to work in high impact environments which is ideal for BASE.
With an exciting and varied career now behind me my primary focus is concentrating on BASE LOGIC, AFF instruction and some additional parachuting projects with Olly.
My route into BASE was as a skydiver looking for a bit more from a parachute sport. I ended up doing some demonstration jumping into tight areas with a 7 cell canopy and I knew I could land a canopy anywhere, I still wanted something more so BASE was the clear way ahead for progression.
High Caliber FJC BASE training put me on the right track and amongst a good group of people and in between work and deployments I was fitting in some next level trips to some unbelievable locations. I have transitioned almost completely to BASE apart from instructing AFF, doing a few fun jumps, a bit of paragliding here and there but running BASE LOGIC and jumping in the mountains is the priority.
I still see BASE as excellent progression to parachute sports and it has certainly made me a better parachutist overall, anyone with this outlook would benefit from jumping with us.
